Welcome
to GoSki Chile.
Hotel Portillo Reservations
Season 2010. |
|
|
Portillo is unique because there
is no town and there is only one hotel:
the grand Hotel Portillo, which has 123
rooms. In this respect, the Portillo skiing
and resort experience is unlike that of
other commercial ski resorts.
Portillo rooms are cozy and warm, and
feature simple decoration. We offer a
variety of rooms, including doubles, family
apartments and suites, with a view of
the valley or the lake. While the mountain
view from the valley side is beautiful,
the lake view is especially spectacular
and is worth the slightly higher price.
Portillo's rooms are
simply decorated and comfortable. Our
rooms do not have TV, however TV can be
viewed in the cinema and disco at designated
hours.

Hotel
We encourage our guests instead to take part
in our many activities and facilities, and disconnect
from the day-to-day routine. Rooms come with
telephones and safes.Chile uses 220 volts, so
be sure to bring a transformer if you bring
your own electronics. Hairdryers are available
from your floor housekeeping staff or you may
wish to bring your own. Our housekeeping staff
acts as your personal valets, and they will
help you with whatever you need, whether it
is a band-aid, laundry or a mending job. Housekeepers
live on each floor.
Over the past 50 years, Portillo has gained
a reputation as the incomparable place for skiers
and boarders. With our renown snow, we can cater
to skiers and snowboarders of all abilities.
80% of the terrain is carefully groomed on a
daily basis, and the most difficult terrain
is natural snow pack. Expert skiers have access
to vast and challenging areas, steep terrain
and exhilarating experiences.There are plentyof
choices at Portillo and all are easy to access
and crowded free. Portillo also allows beginners
and intermediate to excel at their own pace
on groomed runs and open bowls.
Portillo’s Ski School has been
one of the world’s finest for over 50 years.
The School’s excellence continues today under
the direction of Michael Rogan, a year-round
ski professional. Four of the School’s directors
in the past were Olympic Gold Medal winners.
Portillo’s first director was the famous Emile
Allais, French Champion of the 1930s.
Emile was followed by other greats such as Othmar
Schneider, gold medallist in the 1952 Olympics
in Oslo; Stein Eriksen, Olympic gold medal winner
also in 1952; and Pepi Stiegler, a silver medallist
in the games at Squaw Valley, and gold and bronze
medal winner in the Olympic games of Innsbruck.Among
our other great ski school directors, Sigi Grottendorfer
stands out as the man whose bridging influence
is still felt today. Having learned from Othmar,
Sigi trained his successors, Hartmut Helmstreit
and Jimmy Ackerson, whose Portillo Ski Schools
were a training ground for current director
Michael Rogan.
The Portillo ski and resort experience
is unlike that of any other commercial
ski resort. We offer our Grand Hotel Portillo,
with a variety of room options, as well as the
Octagon Lodge, with four bunks to a room and
a private bath, and the Inca Lodge, with four
bunks to a room and a communal bathroom (the
Inca is popular with our 20-something crowd
on a budget). There is no neighboring town,
meaning Portillo is totally self-contained,
much like a cruise ship nestled in the magnificent
Andean peaks, with skiing/snowboarding the main,
but far from only, activity.
A maximum of 450 guests means there is ample
opportunity to socialize, and enough space to
just sit back and relax while surrounded by
our breathtaking scenery. Excellent service
is our principal objective, and with 450 employees
we boast one employee per guest. Portillo's
warm, friendly atmosphere, outstanding skiing
and plentiful services mean good health and
wonderful memories for our guests.

Miscellaneous
Hotel Information
Tours of the hotel and its
facilities are made every Saturday
night. We recommend these tours to
first-time visitors so that they learn
of the many things there are to do
in Portillo.
Tap water in Portillo is not only
potable, it is delicious and pure.
Portillo’s rooms do not have television,
however television may be seen at
certain hours in the cinema or the
disco. This is intended to encourage
guests to enjoy the many services,
entertainment and activities available,
and to get to know the other guests.
Portillo asks that all guests wear
nice clothing and shoes to the dining
room for the evening meal. Ski clothes
are fine at breakfast and lunch. Guests
who enjoy getting dressed more elegantly
for dinner are welcomed and encouraged
to do so.
Portillo (and all of Chile) uses 220-volt
electricity, so guests might need
to bring transformers.
Internet access is available for an
additional charge through wireless
service in the rooms or our Portillo
Cyber café.
